New Sewing/Craft Blog

I have wanted to start a sewing blog for such a long time.  Not only would it motivate me to create more, which makes me happy, but it would be very rewarding in so many ways.  But I just haven't pulled it together.  It seemed so overwhelming to start one and commit to the time involved to make it good.

Then I had an idea.  My friend Autie, is super talented at all things crafty.  Her stuff is amazing, and so I thought that if we combined forces, we could really do something great together.

Here is our brain-child, if you would like to take a look:

We are super excited for this new adventure!

Halloween

This year Emily was determined to be Hello Kitty. This is what I found:

You can imagine that I wasn't too excited about spending $30 on this.  At the Hello Kitty Store, I asked if there were costumes, and they said that Sanrio doesn't make one.  Odd, since they make everything else under the sun.  So I googled Hello Kitty Costumes and found ONE picture of a costume someone had made.  The outfit wasn't very cute, but she made a giant hello kitty head that gave me an idea of how to make a decent costume.

So after months pondering it, and one day hard labor, this is what Emily looked like going to school last Friday:

I got lucky for Aaron's costume.  At the last minute, I went into Children's Orchard and found the perfect costume for $4.00.  A cute little bat:

This year, as Halloween landed on a Sunday, we had Trunk or Treat at church.  We were a trunk and bought dry ice to put in the back.  It didn't really work out very well, and died really quickly, but we had some fun with it in the kitchen sink:

Brian and I went to a party this year.  I think the last time we went to a halloween party was before we even were dating.  It was fun.  Brian agreed to wear an In N Out guy costume, and I went as a fortune teller:

After Trunk or Treat, I got this cute shot of the kids:

Shabby Apple "Dare to Design" Contest

Dress design for Shabby Apple Dresses

Shabby Apple, which has the cutest dresses, is having a design contest. I thought it would be fun to enter, since I have been getting back into sewing clothes.

Design #1:
This dress would be considered formal/evening wear.  It has a sheer, multi-layered, chiffon overlayed skirt and collar piece.
Inspiration: I actually had a dream about a tiered dress...I know- crazy!  I woke up thinking about it a few mornings ago, and finally put it down on paper (with a few minor changes...)
Dress Design #2:
This dress is casual daywear.  It has a pintucked bib and pocket trim, with a pleated cap sleeve.
Inspiration: I have had pintucks on my mind lately, and bought a special foot for my sewing machine.  I think that they add such great detail to a dress!

Dress Design #3:
This is casual daywear also.  It has tiny cap sleeves, with an exposed zipper and tiered ruffles.
Inspiration: I bought a two-tiered ruffle skirt at a thrift store the other day, and was trying to think of a way to revamp it to make it more modern.  I thought of cutting down the front and adding a zipper.  When dreaming up a dress design, the skirt idea came to mind...just took it a bit further!
I forgot how much fun it is to design clothes!  Wish me luck.....

Big Girl Bed

So we finally took the crib/toddler bed out of Emily's room for Aaron, and Emily is the proud recipient of a big girl bed! She got to pick out her bedding and everything. So exciting!

Emily turned 4!

Such a big girl now.

We love her so much.

We love her:

smile
mannerisms
words
storytelling
imagination
sense (or lack) of style (think Punky Brewster)
voice
attitude
intelligence
sense of humor
sweetness

I am so thankful for my little Emily!

Aaron: 7 Weeks

So much to catch up on.
Kim at Tickled Pink Studios took Aaron's newborn photos and made our announcements. You can check out her blog here. She was so great to work with!

Here are some of our favorite shots from Aaron's photo shoot.
